Social Security Payment Dates for November 2026 — and What the 3.6% COLA Raise Means for January

If you are budgeting around your next benefit check, November has a couple of quirks worth knowing about. Here are the confirmed Social Security payment dates for November 2026, why one group gets paid a day early, why SSI recipients will see no payment inside November at all, and what the newly announced 3.6% cost-of-living raise means when it lands in January.

November 2026 Social Security payment dates

Retirement, survivor and disability benefits follow your birth date. For November 2026 the schedule is: Tuesday, November 3 for people who started benefits before May 1997 and for those who receive both Social Security and SSI; Tuesday, November 10 for birthdays on the 1st through 10th — paid a day early because the second Wednesday, November 11, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday; Wednesday, November 18 for birthdays on the 11th through 20th; and Wednesday, November 25 for birthdays on the 21st through 31st.

Why there is no SSI payment in November

Supplemental Security Income is normally paid on the 1st of the month, but November 1 falls on a Sunday this year, so the November SSI payment is issued early, on Friday, October 30. That means SSI households receive two payments in October and none during November itself. It is not an extra benefit — it is the same monthly payment arriving early — so plan November spending accordingly. SSI resumes its normal rhythm with the December payment on Tuesday, December 1.

The 2027 COLA: a 3.6% raise, confirmed

The Social Security Administration announced on October 14 that benefits will rise 3.6% for 2027, up from the 2.8% adjustment for 2026, reflecting firmer inflation over the past year. The raise covers nearly 72 million Social Security beneficiaries and about 7.3 million SSI recipients. The agency estimates the average retired worker’s monthly benefit will climb by about $75, from roughly $2,095 to $2,170. A couple both receiving retirement benefits would see combined payments of about $3,355, the average disabled worker about $1,701, and the maximum federal SSI payment rises to $1,029 for an individual and $1,544 for an eligible couple. As a simple guide, a $1,000 monthly benefit becomes about $1,036, a $1,500 benefit about $1,554, and a $2,000 benefit about $2,072 — before any deductions such as Medicare Part B premiums, which can offset part of the increase.

When the bigger checks arrive

None of the remaining 2026 payments include the raise. Increased amounts begin with benefits payable in January 2027 for Social Security recipients, on the usual Wednesday schedule (January 13, 20 and 27 by birth date). SSI recipients see the increase first, in the payment issued December 31, 2026, because the January SSI payment moves up for New Year’s Day. Your exact new amount will appear in a COLA notice in your online my Social Security account starting in late November, with mailed notices following in December — check there rather than relying on estimates. December’s regular Social Security payment dates, for planning, are December 1 (SSI), December 3, and December 9, 16 and 23 by birth date.
